Test Policy

TEST POLICY

Testing is an extremely important ingredient in the process of evaluating student performance and progress. As such it is critical that students prepare for, properly plan for, and be present for all exams.

If the student is aware the he/ she may be absent for a test then it is his/ her responsibility to meet with the subject teacher and arrange an alternate time for the test prior to the test date. This includes school sponsored activities, as well as, scheduled specialists’ appointments, i.e. orthodontist. If arrangements are not made then this is considered a missed test and points 1, 2, and 3 below will apply.

If school is closed due to weather conditions or unexpected closures then the test will go ahead on the next scheduled class sitting. If school is closed due to weather conditions or unexpected closures and a review class is missed then the review class will go ahead on the next scheduled class sitting and the test the following scheduled class sitting.

When students miss exams it is very difficult for teachers to give re-tests since not all students return to school the following class. It is often difficult to prepare several equivalent exams to be used in any retesting process. Therefore in the interest of fairness, the following school policy has been adopted.

TESTS

1. The general policy of the school will be that no retesting will be done in instances where students are absent on the day of a test. Teachers may, however, administer tests for evaluation purposes on a case by case basis.

2. If a student is absent on the day of the test, one parent note per year will be accepted, after which, a medical note is required to be excused. This is one parent note per year per student NOT per course. Parent notes for Missed Tests will be passed into the office by the Homeroom teacher.

3. Once the parent note has been used then a medical note must be passed in for any other missed test.
